Poster Instructions

Posters must fit on a 46"x 70" (H x W) surface. Poster boards are pushpin-compatible; presenters will need to provide their own pushpins.

Preparation of Abstracts

  1. Abstracts should be formatted in 12-point, Times New Roman font and preferably in Microsoft Word format.

  2. The top and side margins should all be one inch; please justify the right margin.

  3. The Title should begin on line 1 in boldface caps; italicize species names.

  4. Leave one blank line. Then type the authors' names - first name, middle initial and last name. The presenting author should be the FIRST author listed.

  5. On the next line, please spell out the complete name and contact information for the Presenter (Laboratory, Department, Institution, along with phone numbers and e-mail addresses) in order that putative collaborators can readily contact the presenting lab.

For multiple affiliations, use superscripts to associate authors and institutions.

  6. Leave one blank line. Begin the Abstract text on a new line with no indent; limit the text to no more than 30 single-spaced lines.

  7. No figures, columns, or tables, please.

  8. On a separate page, provide the name, address, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the contact person for all matters pertaining to the Fall Symposium presentation.

  9. The abstract should be informative and understandable to those not within the author's area of research. It should present what is important in the poster, moving from an introductory statement of the rationale and objectives or hypotheses, through materials and methods, to emphasize results, conclusions, and impact. The abstract should stand alone; do not deflect the reader with promises such as "will be discussed" or "will be explained." Limit use of abbreviations, and define the ones used in the text.

  10. Please send your completed abstract to Dr. Roger Lawson of USDA-ARS at rlawson66@verizon.net by 5:00 PM on Friday, August 30, 2012.
