

"Science Day for Kids" Mar 31, 2005

"Science Day for Kids" was held at the Dairy Forage Research Center in Madison, Wisconsin from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event featured a day at work with the USDA Agricultural Research Service scientists. Highlights included collecting samples of rumen contents from dairy cows, microscopic examination of the rumen, chromatography of candy, cucumber research, sampling of liquid nitrogen ice cream, and the benefits of cereal crops in the human diet. About two dozen fourth graders with their teachers participated in the very hands-on activities.

Wisconsin State Fair ("Ag Ventures" Day) Aug 9, 2005
Lauri Herrin and Rachel Angel from the EEO Committee had an exhibit on "Science in Your Shopping Cart" and Oat and Barley Research and Nutrition. Lots of food products made from oats and barley were on display. The exhibit promoting agricultural research by the USDA ran from 9:00am until 4:00pm.
