January 26, 2006, Drs. Matt Römkens, Fred Rhoton, and Martin Locke (National Sedimentation Laboratory, Oxford, MS) and Dr. Robert Wright (National Program Staff) met in Jackson, MS, with representatives of NRCS, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and The Southern Company, to discuss research into using gypsum (a byproduct of coal-fired power generation) for agricultural applications including reductions in soil and nutrient losses from cropland and reductions in water quality problems from poultry waste runoff.
