Mission

The Database Management Unit (DBMU) develops and maintains an automated data retrieval system for the collection and dissemination of germplasm information. The DBMU provides data processing expertise in support of the production plant database, the production animal database, microbial, insect, and forest tree programs. This system serves the needs of scientists and other agricultural researchers by providing accurate taxonomy, passport, geographic, evaluation, inventory, and cooperator information.

Goals

Maintain and enhance the Germplasm Resources Information Network (GRIN) for the National Genetic Resources Program.

Provide data processing assistance to the National Germplasm Resources Laboratory (NGRL) and the National Program Staff (NPS).

Cooperate with foreign countries in the development of information systems. See also the GRIN-Global wiki.
