Welcome to the CPCRC

The Columbia Plateau Conservation Research Center (CPCRC) was constructed north of Pendleton, OR, in 1970. The CPCRC conducts research on soil and water conservation issues in the Columbia Plateau and related land resource areas.

The scientific and technical expertise at the CPCRC encompasses agronomy, soil chemistry, soil physics, hydrology, and microbiology.

Capabilities include:

  • State-of-art analytical chemistry and microbiological laboratories
  • Machine shop for equipment repair and metal fabrication
  • A variety of farm implements for small-and large-plot studies
  • Soil instruments for quantifying runoff, infiltration, erosion, carbon sequestration, gaseous emissions, and other processes
  • Weather station network
  • 10-acres of land for replicated research
  • Access to off-station sites for field experiments
  • Conference room, office and administrative space.

The CPCRC works in partnership with Oregon State University and cooperates with land grant institutions in Washington and Idaho, other USDA-ARS laboratories, action agencies such as the NRCS and FSA, growers, crop consultants, technology companies, and others.
