    Description of experience: Dr. Dierig leads the Plant and Animal Genetic Resources Preservation Research Unit that is composed of two programs: the Plant Genetic Resources Preservation Program (PGRPP); and the National Animal Germplasm Program (NAGP), with a mission to acquire, preserve, catalogue, and assure long-term viability of plant and animal genetic resources for food security.  His research involves the genetic control of traits related to genebanking, developing tools to enhance genebank capacities to assess and efficiently capture genetic diversity, enhancing longevity of stored germplasm, and improve tools that validate genetic integrity of accessions.

Supervisory Experience 

Dr. Dierig directly supervises two Plant Physiologists (GS-15 and GS-13), one Animal Geneticist (GS-15) one Animal Physiologist (GS-13), one postdoctoral fellow (GS-11), two IT Specialists (GS-11 and GS-12), a Program Support Assistant (GS-7), two Office Automation Clerks (GS-5 and GS-3), a Utility Systems Repairer Operator (WG-10), and three Custodial Workers (WG-2).  The incumbent is second line supervisor to 35 other technicians ranging from GS-1 to GS-9. Typically, there are up to six visiting international scientists, along with eight temporary student workers.
