Executive Order (E.O.) 13423, Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management, which supersedes E.O. 13148, requires “appropriate facilities, to develop and implement an EMS. ARS Headquarters, Area Offices and Locations have been designated “appropriate facilities and are required to have an EMS in place.
E.O. 13514 Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance requires each Agency sustain environmental management by continuing implementation of formal Environmental Management Systems at all appropriate levels and ensuring formal systems are appropriately implemented and maintained to achieve the performance necessary to meet the goals of E.O. 13514.
Each year, ARS Pullman conducts an audit for EMS Declaration of Conformance. Every three years, a second party auditor(s) surveys the Location’s EMS to ensure conformance. This EMS Declaration of Conformance is a public statement that the Pullman Location conforms to nationally accepted standards. Declaring conformance of an EMS helps assure stakeholders, the general public, and surrounding communities, of our commitment to sound environmental management.
ARS Pullman has established and will maintain an Environmental Management System. The ARS Pullman Location’s EMS provides for continuous improvement of its environmental performance using a plan, do, check and act model. The EMS documents organizational structure, planning activities, responsibilities, practices, procedures, processes and resources for developing, implementing, achieving, reviewing and maintaining environmental programs at the Pullman Location.
