The rugged terrain of Appalachia poses challenges to land and resource managers concerned with protecting water quality. AFSRC scientists are designing environmentally benign grazing management practices, which capitalize on the dynamics of herbage growth in complex terrain. Dr. Douglas Boyer, Hydrologist, investigated the mechanics of transport of fecal bacteria by rain splash on slopes. The research results were recently published (Boyer, D. G. 2008. Fecal Coliform Dispersal by Rain Splash on Slopes. Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, 148(8-9):1395-1400).

Information is available from Dr. Douglas Boyer.
