April 2 -4, 2007
Workshop convenes at 1:00 pm April 2, 2007 in the Continuing Education and Conference Center on the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota. The workshop wraps up at noon April 4.
Mark your calendars! The upcoming North American Cereal Rust Workshop has been set for April 2-4 on the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota. We would like all participants to contribute to the program so we are asking for tentative titles for oral and poster presentations in the following general areas: rust survey reports; rust population genetics, biology, and epidemiology; host resistance to rusts; rust genomics and molecular biology; taxonomy and phylogenetics of rust fungi.

Workshop Update
There's still time to register for the upcoming North American Cereal Rust Workshop! We are putting together an exciting program and will be having sessions in the following areas: Cereal Rust Race Surveys; Host Resistance to Rusts; Rust Biology and Taxonomy; Detection, Surveillance, and Quarantines; Molecular Biology and Host-Pathogen Interactions. Oral presentations will be 15 min. long (~10 min talk + ~5 min. for questions). You may give presentations in multiple sessions (i.e., present rust survey data in that session, resistance genetics work in the Host Resistance session). If you would like to participate, send us a tentative title of your oral presentation and what session you would like to present it in. We will also have space for poster presentations. See you in April in St. Paul!
Once we receive all the titles, we will be asking for abstracts of your presentations to be put into a program book. A complete proceedings of Powerpoint presentations (both oral and poster) will be made available online after the meeting.
Workshop Program - final update 3/29
Poster presentations
There are no set size specifications for posters, perhaps something in the 42" x 42" or thereabout would be a good choice. The posters will be mounted on fabric wall panels in the workshop room and on the walls immediately outside of the room using T-pins and 3M temporary adhesives (both provided), respectively.
Real-time PCR protocol overview session
A couple of people have expressed interest in visiting the CDL on Thursday April 5th to review the protocol we use to detect rust spores in rain. We will go through the extraction procedure and the nested real-time PCR assay beginning at 9 am and will likely be finished by noon, but the time frame is flexible.
If you would like to participate in the session, please contact Charlie Barnes, at barn0107@umn.edu
