Jesse and Janet Anderson's Chickens

Jesse Anderson feeding chickens

Jesse Anderson feeding chickens, probably about 1948.  The White Leghorns were kept for eggs and the heavier Rhode Island Reds for cooking with dumplings [either "sad dumplings" (thin and doughy) or "fluffy dumplings" (full of air)].  The chickens were penned up at night in the two chicken houses to protect them from foxes and weasels.
