The Healthy Body Weight Research Unit of USDA-ARS located at the Grand Forks Nutrition Research Center in Grand Forks, ND is seeking a Research Psychologist/ Research Nutritionist to assist in applied and fundamental research relating to eating habits, physical activity behaviors and other lifestyle factors relevant to obesity prevention and maintenance of healthy body weight. The assigned general area of research is to generate new knowledge about developing and evaluating innovative obesity prevention approaches with youth, adults and families. Prevention approaches can be targeted at the community, neighborhood, school, worksite, or family levels. This could include comparisons of various behavioral treatment modalities for subjects at risk for obesity or weight gain, as well as studying ways to enhance adherence to behaviors important for weight-control. Research could also include determining how patterns of sleep, sedentary behavior and exercise influence eating behavior, energy balance and metabolic health. Interventions are to be based on contemporary behavioral/social science findings. This research will mainly involve the use of human studies, but could be supported by mechanistic studies using animal models. The GS-12/13 level position is full time, permanent, open to US citizens and has open-ended promotion potential.
