Summer 2012

WHAT IS THE RESEARCH APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM?

The Research Apprenticeship Program gives high school students the chance to work with scientists for eight weeks, 40 hours a week, during the summer.  This program is especially designed for students who are interested in pursuing agriculturally-related occupations. Selected students work with research scientists and other professionals in the Agricultural Research Service, the principal research agency in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).  Students earn a good wage while also learning about careers and future employment prospects available in the ARS. Only one apprenticeship is available for the summer of 2012, and that is in Akron, CO. 

 

This position has been filled. 

 

APPRENTICES MUST BE:

1.  High school students (including high school seniors) who are U.S. citizens, or have permanent residency; and be

2.  At least 16 years of age; and

3.  Plan to continue their education in an accredited high school or a post-secondary program in the fall of 2012 (must supply proof of enrollment).

4.  Additionally, if there are additional qualifications for a specific internship, those qualifications will be noted in the job announcement.

  1. Students interested in applying for this apprenticeship must contact the listed Mentor Scientist directly (email or telephone) for instructions for applying for this position.
  2. Application deadlines, starting and ending dates, schedules, preferred experience and/or course work, etc., are determined by each mentor scientist. 
  3. In addition to any application materials required by the mentor scientist, you will need to supply a resume, certified transcripts, proof of enrollment (spring and fall semester 2012), and if selected, submit an OF 306 Declaration for Federal Employment. 
  4. These positions typically fill quickly, so apply without delay!
