Quantifying Environmental Benefits from Precision Agriculture Project

The NGPRL partnership with UMAC is focusing on developing new and innovative methods to quantify the environmental value from implementing existing or new precision agriculture practices.

The collaboration seeks to quantitatively evaluate the "greenness index" developed by DigitalGlobe® as a rapid and accurate method to evaluate (1) crop yield, (2) forage productivity, (3) quality of the forage, and (4) the emission of greenhouse gases (particularly methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide).

Results from this research are being integrated with other available data to develop the capacity for farmers and ranchers to use remote sensing technology to develop site-specific best-management practices.
