The Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research Unit is located on the campus of North Carolina State University.  Staff scientists of the unit also have professorships in the Crop and Soil Sciences Department of the university.  They lecture, advise graduate students and conduct cooperative research with non-Federal scientists at NCSU.

Soybean varieties released by the Unit are grown commercially and made available to the public through NC Foundation Seed.  Released germplasm is sent throughout the US and world.

The unit cooperates with other breeders at public institutions across the eastern US.  The United Soybean Board and NC Soybean Producers Assoc. have generously provided funding for many projects over the years, and continue to do so.

Partnerships with industry include Material Transfer Agreements with large agricultural companies.
