Buckwheat ProductionFagopyrum (buckwheat) is a member of the family Polygonales.  Buckwheat is an annual crop which produces seed in one growing season. The buckwheat collection at the Plant Genetic Resources Unit consists of over 250 accessions. We currently house 2 species: esculentum Moench (buckwheat) and tataricum (L.) Gaertn (Tartary Buckwheat)

Our oldest collection dates back to 1952, a donation to our collection from Maryland, United States. Our newest additions were added in 2013 by a donation from China.
