Onion seed production

The onion (Allium) collection, consists of more than 1200 different accessions.  Those accessions needing regeneration are chosen yearly by Dr. Larry Robertson, geneticist and vegetable crop curator.  Alliums are a biennial crop (needing 2 years to produce seed).  The short-day onion collection for the Plant Genetic Resources Unit is maintained by a partnership with New Mexico State University.
