KATHLEEN D. PARKER is the Program Assistant for the USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Root Disease and Biological Control Research Unit, Pullman, WA. She holds a B.S. degree in Kinesiology/Psychology from the University of North Texas and a M.S.in Sports Administration from Indiana University-Bloomington. In 2001, she came to the USDA-ARS from private industry as a work group leader in the manufacturing industry and prior to that was a basketball coach at the college level. In 2005 along with Dr. Weller she developed the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) outreach program “Pumping -Up the Math and Science Pipeline: Grade School To College”. Ms. Parker is a 2008 graduate of the USDA New Leadership Program. In 2006, she was the recipient of the USDA-ARS EEO/Civil Rights Award in the non-supervisory category. In 2010-2011 she received the Excellence in Civic Engagement from Washington State University for her “commitment to learning through campus-community engagement”. In 2011 she was co-recipient of the USDA’s Secretary’s Honor Award in the diversity category.
