The Mission of the STARS is 1) to conduct multidisciplinary research to elucidate mechanisms and interactions for responses
of different breed types of cattle to nutritional and environmental stressors; 2) to determine the biological and physical
phenomena that affect forage production and utilization by livestock; 3) to assess the impact of grazing livestock on
the environment; and to 4) identify and quantify a full spectrum of biological traits of economic importance in life-cycle
beef production systems. STARS serves as the National Center of the Agency for the characterization, evaluation and preservation
of tropically adapted beef cattle germplasm.
