Mission:
The mission of the Genomics and Bioinformatics Research Unit (GBRU) is to: 1) coordinate, facilitate, and conduct genomics and bioinformatics research emphasizing the Mid South Area; 2) serve as a research resource for genomics technology and bioinformatics analysis in support of ARS scientists and research cooperators; 3) serve as a technical resource to ARS research programs that have not typically utilized these technologies and aid in the development of genomic resources for specialty crops, on a case-by-case basis. Examples include horticultural crops and sugarcane in the Mid South Area that otherwise would lack access to expensive genome sequencing and bioinformatics infrastructure; and 4) serve as a primary research resource for genomics and bioinformatics to cotton, soybean, corn, and catfish, particularly at Stoneville, where the unit is based.
