Mission:
The mission of the U.S. Pacific Basin Agricultural Research Center (PBARC) is to conduct research for development of sustainable agricultural systems and pest management programs in support of Hawaii, the Pacific Basin, and U.S. agriculture. To achieve this mission, PBARC collaborates with producers, action agencies, universities, ARS locations, and other agricultural research institutions. Goals: A. Application of modern molecular genetic/genomics techniques to broaden knowledge of key crop agricultural/horticultural traits. Utilization of techniques to enhance crop value to the environment and stakeholders. B. Provide stakeholders sound research for regulator and policy considerations. C. Utilize the unique climatic and geographical positioning of PBARC to provide models of global importance and usefulness. D. Research feeds and other economical beneficial value-added by-products from agricultural systems such as aquaculture and specialty fruits, vegetables, and ornamentals.
