Mission:
The mission of the Cell Wall Biology and Utilization Research Unit is to conduct basic and applied research that will increase our knowledge base to solve problems related to: • redesigning forages to maximize use of forage nutrients by the dairy cow for milk production, reduce nutrients from manure that are potentially dangerous to water and air, and improve energy conversion efficiency; • increasing harvesting, storage, and feeding efficiencies of forages through reducing losses and increasing feed value through pretreatment; • developing new methods to process perennial forages for new value-added products, including biofuels; • developing new methods to rapidly and accurately evaluate forages for nutrient availability and energy conversion efficiency.
