The mission of the Nutrition and Environmental Management Research Unit is to develop knowledge and technology to improve the efficiency of livestock production, and minimize the environmental impact of beef cattle, sheep, and swine. Research emphases include 1) Improving the efficiency of utilization of feed resources for the production of edible products, 2) Minimizing the environmental impact of livestock waste, and 3) Increasing the competency of beef cattle reproduction. Scientists investigate the influence of animal genetics, metabolism, physiology, management strategies, animal behavior, and they develop monitoring tools to solve problems.
