Mission:
The mission of the Bovine Functional Genomics Laboratory is to improve the health and genetic and productive efficiency of cattle through fundamental research on gene expression and genome-wide association analysis. Research in the laboratory applies molecular biology and bioinformatics approaches to: enhance genetic selection for increased production efficiency and disease resistance; develop fundamental knowledge about development and health of the mammary gland and gastrointestinal tract; and understand interactions of nutrients and the genome (nutritional epigenetics). Implicit in these endeavors is the development of molecular biological and bioinformatic tools to facilitate functional genomic studies of cattle and small ruminants.
